Meet the Organizers
Meet the Organizers:
Heartland Social Work is a program of Heartland Counseling and Training which organizes professional conferences and trainings for social workers, providing high-quality, practical learning experiences that support continuing education, skill development, and effective practice in diverse communities.
The organization is led by Becky Fast, MPA/LCSW - a social worker with over three decades of direct practice, policy, and training experience. Becky earned her clinical license by providing mental health support to patients and their families through hospice care in Kansas City, Missouri.
Her passion for community service led her to pursue a master’s degree in social work and then in public administration from the University of Kansas. After graduation, Becky was hired as a public policy analyst at the University of Kansas to evaluate and improve the delivery of services in Kansas for older adults and persons with disabilities. Fast also co-authored training curriculum and publications focusing on Strengths-Based Practices with Older Adults. Additionally, she trained aging services case managers and social workers in Kansas, Pennsylvania, Colorado, New Mexico and in Canada.
After the University of Kansas, Becky was hired to be the Constituent Services Director for former U.S. Congressman Dennis Moore 3rd- District of Kansas. During this position, she served as a practicum director for BSW social work students who received direct practice work in a macro setting. In 2004, Kansas lost a beloved social worker, Terri Zenner who was murdered while conducting a home visit with her client. In her position as Congressional Aide, Becky introduced the first social work safety bill in Congress.
In 2009, Becky received the Kansas social worker of the year award and was honored in the U.S. Congressional Record for her public service and work on behalf of the profession and practice of social work.
